Prayers to Saint Deicolus of Lure

O Saint Deicolus,
you left your homeland to follow Christ
and laboured alongside your brothers.
When old age turned you back from exile,
you did not despair—you built a house of prayer,
kept the faith and shared it until the end.
Teach us to smile,
remembering that neither
exile nor age nor despair
can separate us
from the love of God.
Amen.
Saint Deicolus of Lure, Irish monk and hermit.
Prayer to Saint Deicolus for
Sick Children
Prayer to Saint Deicolus for
Protection of Livestock
Prayer to Saint Deicolus for Grace to Remain Faithful in Old Age
O Saint Deicolus,
faithful servant of Christ,
we ask you to remember
the children once laid at your tomb,
whom the Lord healed in His mercy.
Pray for this child,
that they be held in the hand of God
—in weakness or in strength,
in health or in healing.
Pray for those who care for them,
that despair may not enter the room,
that peace be not cast out by fear.
Faithful intercessor,
pray for this child, whom we love.
Amen.
O Saint Deicolus,
whose gentle heart
even the wild creatures trusted,
pray for the livestock in our care.
Ask the Lord to guard them
from sickness and harm,
from all that threatens their health,
and to protect the labour they bear.
Pray for us also,
that we may tend them faithfully,
seeing they are His creatures,
entrusted to our keeping.
Obtain for us patience
when the burden is heavy,
wisdom when treatment is needed,
and mercy in all our dealings with our livestock.
Faithful intercessor,
pray for us.
Amen.
O Saint Deicolus,
who served the Lord through many seasons
—in exile and in settlement,
in strength and in decline
—teach us to persevere as you did.
You did not return in defeat,
but in trust; not to rest, but to build.
When your companions moved on,
you remained
and built a house of prayer,
keeping the faith
and sharing it until the end.
Obtain for us this same grace
—to continue when the path narrows,
to give though strength fades,
to hope when light withdraws.
Pray that age may not
harden our hearts
nor loosen our devotion,
but that we may keep
our faith like children,
regardless of our years,
so that we may, like you,
rejoice in His kingdom.
Amen.
