Intercede for those of us
who endure the burden of epilepsy,
those whose bodies fail
without warning,
whose strength gives way in a moment,
and who live with uncertainty
about the next hour.
Pray for patience in affliction,
for protection in times of weakness,
for wise and compassionate care,
and for endurance in trials
that return again and again.
You who did not deny the Lord
when tested,
pray that those who suffer
may not lose heart,
but remain steadfast in faith
amid what they cannot control.

O Saint Valentine,
priest and martyr of the early Church,
who suffered death in confession of Christ,

Intercede for us,
who are called to love
yet so often love poorly.
We grow weary in patience,
we protect ourselves when we should give,
we seek comfort when love asks for sacrifice.
Pray that our love may be purified,
that it may not rest in sentiment,
nor fade when tested,
but become faithful in small duties
and steadfast in greater trials.
And pray for us,
that in our homes and friendships,
in promises kept and burdens shared,
in hidden acts of service and costly forgiveness,
we may learn the love
that does not count the cost
when another’s good is at stake.
You who bore witness to the Lord
in the hour appointed to you,
and did not turn aside from Him,
pray that we may remain faithful
when love demands perseverance,
and courageous
when it asks us to lay down ourselves for others.
May the love of Christ,
which overcomes fear and endures unto death,
take root in us
and order all our affections toward God.
